"THE WORK I'VE DONE WITH STAGE LEFT
HAS BEEN THE MOST PROFOUND OF MY ENTIRE LIFE."

Stage Left's Artistic Disciplines
We create original multidisciplinary Epic Theatre productions and DIY/ counterculture digital films.
Professional Art: Disability + Feminist + Queer Art
We fuse together Disability, Feminist and Queer Arts into daring forms of Political Art.
Our originally-created productions amplify the perspectives of marginalized people and reveal the roots of social injustice.
Our artist-community collaborations cultivate collective resistance, in ways that disrupt the "artist as therapist" way of working over others and that replace "healing through the arts" with "collectively recovering and resisting through the arts".
Applied Art: Theatre of the Oppressed
Stage Left's globally esteemed, trauma-informed Theatre of the Oppressed practice is world renown for its successful applications in the fields of Medicine, Nursing, Mental Health, Public Health Policy, Adult Education, Social Work and the Human Services.
We also use applied Theatre of the Oppressed methods in community-centered approaches to decolonization, reconciliation, anti-racism, anti-oppression, disability justice and youth justice; along with and collective resistance/ recovery and action/ impact.
Arts Training: Cultural, Political, Aesthetic Transgression
We facilitate annual Theatre of the Oppressed and cross-cutlural solidarity-building intensives, arts equity training workshops, and master classes in specialized, non-normalizing techniques for artists with intercultural and interdisciplinary artistic practices. We also develop and deliver professional development support services for marginalized, diverse artists.
Arts Advocacy: Collective Impact for Systemic Change
We run local and national arts advocacy collectives, through The Calgary Collective for Equity & Diversity in the Arts and The Deaf, Disability & Mad Arts Alliance of Canada. Through both, we use art itself as a form of advocacy.
